What is the Program Description?
The Readiness Course for EMDR Clinicians: A Model & Practicum for How to Begin with Non-Dissociative Complex Trauma Cases is designed for EMDR therapists to be able to use as a model and practicum for learning a strategically-sequenced series of preparation and history-gathering steps to use with non-dissociative, complex/developmental trauma clients to help advance and insure their readiness to respond well when beginning trauma memory reprocessing. The course identifies key components of readiness for safe and effective trauma memory reprocessing with this population, explains the reasons why each component is important for readiness, and provides exercises designed with the dual-purpose of assessing the clients for these components and providing methods of developing each one.
What are the Course Objectives?
At the conclusion of this training, the EMDR therapist will be able to . . .
What is the Course Outline?
An explanation of the how and why this course has been strategically designed as a model/practicum; an overview of the components of readiness for trauma memory reprocessing to be addressed in the course; and a method for introducing the AIP model, how EMDR therapy can transform the way trauma memories are stored in the brain, and important differences in safely and effectively treating Complex/Developmental Trauma compared to Adult Onset or Single Incident PTSD
Two practical tools to remind the nervous system that the circumstances of the past are over and that the Here and Now of adulthood IS distinctly different than the There and Then of childhood
Two methods to stop the swirling of negative thoughts and emotions – and a powerful exercise to tease out compelling reasons it actually might NOT feel okay to stop the swirling and feel better
An examination of four intense obstacles that can block healing of Complex/Developmental Trauma – and multiple methods for profoundly down-shifting these defenses
The development of a dynamic team of support figures – and the strengthening of a visceral connection to their Nurture, Protection, and Wisdom, as powerful scaffolding to support the work of healing from Complex/Developmental Trauma
An exercise designed to identify key life experiences and their ongoing impact on beliefs about Worth, Responsibility, Safety, and Choices
The identification of the Core Negative Themes causing disruption to self-image and healthy functioning – and the strategic mapping of memory clusters to be addressed with EMDR memory reprocessing
The highlighting and strengthening of Neurological Golden Nuggets – so that EMDR reprocessing can more readily connect them to the trauma memories from which they had previously been isolated and unable to impact
A means of facilitating the adult self becoming the most powerful source of Nurture, Protection, and Wisdom for the younger self, who went through whatever the younger self went through – with the purpose of developing a foundation for healing from Complex/Developmental Trauma and forming secure relationships in adult life
Who is this course for? What if I have not completed an EMDRIA-Approved Basic Training?
This course is for independently licensed mental health clinicians who have completed EMDRIA-Approved Basic Training, including the 10 required hours of consultation. Please note, PESI and The Bodymind Institute are not EMDRIA-Approved Training Providers. Therefore, no continuing education credits nor EMDRIA credits will be issued to those who have not completed an EMDRIA-Approved Basic Training.
If you have not completed an EMDRIA-Approved Basic Training and have accidentally purchased the professional training, please email me and I will provide you access to the self-help course. Once you have completed an EMDRIA-Approved Basic Training, please notify me so that I can grant you complimentary access to the professional training course equal to the price of your original purchase.
What Continuing Education Credits are available for this course? What if I don’t see the types of CE’s that I need listed?
A downloadable PDF of the Post-Test Questions will be available to you on the FAQ screen of Module 1 of the Full Course. The Post-Test and Course Evaluation will be accessible for you to complete with Module 9.
6.5 EMDRIA Credits: EMDRIA Distance Learning Course #18001-DL01. Susanne Morgan, LMFT (EMDRIA Credit Provider #18001) maintains responsibility for this program and its content in accordance with EMDRIA standards.
6.5 NBCC Continuing Education Credits: NBCC credits are accepted for most Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors. Check with your state licensing board to determine if NBCC credits are currently accepted for your license in your state. This course is sponsored by AEI (Advanced Education Institute). AEI has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP #6657. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. AEI is solely responsible for all aspects of the program(s).
If you do not see the type of continuing education credits that qualify for your licensure, please contact me with any questions at [email protected], as ongoing efforts are being made to broaden credit options for the course, including possible additional credit for completion of a case study verifying participation in the practicum exercises.
How does the The EMDR Readiness Course (self-help) compare to the The Readiness Course for EMDR Clinicians (professional training)? Is the self-help course something that would be beneficial for my clients?
The professional training provides teaching regarding the application of the readiness concepts and exercises that is directed specifically to the EMDR-trained clinician for use in clinical practice.
The self-help and professional courses contain identical introductions to the AIP model and explanation of differences between treating Single Incident or Adult-Onset PTSD and Complex/Developmental Trauma. The two courses include the same series of exercises in Modules 2-9.
The self-help version provides significant cautions and self-screening directions to discourage inappropriate or unsafe use of the content should the participant have possible dissociative symptoms or insufficient stability and coping to navigate the exercises in a self-help context. These cautions are provided in Module 1, so the participant can decide if the full self-help course is appropriate for them prior to purchasing the full course.
Many of the therapists who have completed the professional training have told me that they plan to have clients take the self-help course alongside their therapy in order to strengthen the quality of the therapeutic process, similar to the way they might use a workbook in conjunction with treatment. Others have told me they plan to refer appropriate clients on their waiting list to the self-help course, to give their clients a way to get started with Phase 1 & 2 of EMDR therapy while they are waiting for an opening in the therapist’s schedule. A third option is to facilitate therapy groups using the self-help course as the curriculum for clients with non-dissociative Complex/Developmental Trauma.
As a benefit of having taken the professional training, you will be granted a coupon code for 20% Off to give to your clients or others in the community whom you believe might benefit from the self-help course. This code will be available on the FAQ page within the Full Course.
What does it mean that the course will be "dripped out" over 8 weeks? What if I want to have access to all 9 Modules immediately?
You will receive access to Module 2 immediately after your purchase of the full course - and then you will be given access to each of the next Modules every 7 days, one per week over a span of 8 weeks. If you somehow don't receive a notification email, you will still be granted access according to this schedule when you log into the course. Each Module that you are given access to will remain open to you, in order that you can return as often as you wish to revisit the material. This also allows you the option to slow down the pace that you move through the course material if needed. You will have access to the entire course for a year.
I deliberately paced the course in this manner to facilitate optimal time to absorb and practice the material in each module. However, if you would prefer to have access to all of the Modules immediately, this option is available using the button on the sidebar. The price is higher, as I want to strongly encourage taking the course as a practicum as it was designed.
Is there a group discount for the course?
Yes! I believe wholeheartedly in the buddy system for getting the most out of the course. 5% off is available for each buddy (up to a maximum of 15% off for a group of 4). The buddy discount can be combined with any other discount code and is taken off of the full price of the course. Send a list of names and email addresses to me at [email protected] - and I will send you the discount code to use for your group.
Is there a discount for Military or First Responders for the course?
Yes! As a small way of saying thank you for your service and sacrifice, a 40% off discount is always available to all former and active-duty military service members, first responders and their spouses – email me at [email protected] for details.
Are ADA needs accommodated?
I would be happy to accommodate your ADA needs. Please call me at 760-452-2776 or email me at [email protected] so that your ability to access the course can be expedited.
What is the Grievance and Refund Policy?
I will make every attempt to resolve grievances in a fair manner. As the first module is available as a significant sample of the course style and content for the low cost of $20, refunds for the course will generally not be issued. If you have a grievance and/or believe your concern should be considered as an exception to this refund policy, please email me at [email protected] with a clearly detailed reason for your request.
