Susanne Morgan specializes in the treatment of PTSD and Complex/Developmental Trauma. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (CA License #LMFT41442) and has provided therapy since 2001. She is Board Certified by and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, as well as a Diplomate of the National Center for Crisis Management. She is a member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. She is a Board Certified Professional Counselor, has been awarded Fellow standing by the American Psychotherapy Association, and is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
Ms. Morgan's education has included graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and as a Distinguished Student in Psychology. She has further earned both a Masters of Arts in Counseling and a Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology. In order to be able to effectively address the complexity of symptoms experienced by her clients, she continually pursues further development of her clinical skills.
Ms. Morgan was originally trained in EMDR therapy in 2005. She is a Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant with the EMDR International Association, and she has completed extensive advanced training in EMDR therapy and related physiologically-based intervention protocols for the treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Dissociative Disorders, and other mental health conditions. She is an approved EMDRIA Credit Provider (#18001) for provision of continuing education to EMDR therapists.
Early in her career, Ms. Morgan completed California State Certification as a Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Advocate. She has completed the Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies through leading trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk. Ms. Morgan has substantial training in Cognitive-Behavioral treatments for trauma, anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, most significantly with David Burns of Stanford University. She is a Certified Level 3 Advanced TEAM-CBT Therapist through the Feeling Good Institute, applying David Burns's cutting edge approaches to assessment and treatment.
Ms. Morgan has been fully trained and accredited in the Amen Clinics methods for educating, assessing, and motivating clients struggling with brain-related conditions, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. As part of this association, she has access to specialized tools and resources to help clients be able to help them attain better brain health and lead happier, richer lives.
Ms. Morgan is a Certified HeartMath Practitioner through the Institute of HeartMath. HeartMath is a tool for affect regulation training, which has been shown through extensive research to improve anxiety, depression, sleep, focus, and other aspects of mental and physical health.
Ms. Morgan also completed a continuing education certificate in the treatment of Eating Disorders. Ms. Morgan worked with Team Mermaid, a women's triathlon association, in the development of a body image and self esteem curriculum for the Mini-Mermaids Girls Running Club.
Sophie the Therapy Dog, has assisted Ms. Morgan for more than 10 years. Sophie has provided much-needed warm, fuzzy moral support and laughter to her clients, as they have done the challenging work of repairing the damaging effects of trauma they have experienced.
